Owing to perception of high cost-low benefit for advanced wound care products, the use of traditional products has been rampant in the country. However, traditional wound care products are gradually being replaced by advanced wound care products due to their efficacy and usefulness in managing wounds by enabling faster healing. Advanced wound care is practiced mostly in large private or public healthcare centers wherein patients can afford to pay for the high cost advanced wound care materials. The advanced wound care market in India still needs to make significant strides before it can overtake the huge traditional wound care market, as in developed countries.
The wound care market in India is quite a fragmented one characterized by the presence of several manufacturers and fierce competition existing between them. Companies such as Johnson and Johnson, Smith & Nephew and Datt Mediproducts had strong distribution systems and promotion strategies that enabled them to stay ahead in this sector.
